Lab Director: Leah M. Adams, PhD

Dr. Leah M. Adams (she/her) is a licensed clinical psychologist (Washington; Virginia) and an Associate Professor at George Mason University in the department of Psychology and in the Women & Gender Studies program. She received a B.S. from the University of Richmond in 2008, and received her Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from George Mason University. She completed a predoctoral residency in Rehabilitation Psychology and Neuropsychology at the University of Washington Medical Center and a two-year NIH-funded T-32 postdoctoral fellowship in Women’s Health and Aging at Group Health Research Institute (now Kaiser Permanente Washington Health Research Institute) in Seattle, WA.
Dr. Adams is active in the field, and has served in various appointed and elected roles within the American Psychological Association (APA) Division 22 Rehabilitation Psychology, including as Chair of the Early Career Special Interest Group, Science Chair for the Division at the annual APA convention, Early Career Representative on the Executive Committee, and co-Chair of the African Diaspora Special Interest Group. Dr. Adams serves on several editorial boards, including Behavioral Medicine, Rehabilitation Psychology, and Psychiatric Services.
Dr. Adams is passionate about her roles as a psychologist, researcher, and instructor/mentor. In recognition of her research, teaching, integration of research and teaching, and public impact, she was awarded one of two Commonwealth of Virginia early career (“Rising Star”) Outstanding Faculty Awards in 2022. This award is given by the State Council of Higher Education for Virginia (SCHEV), and awardees are drawn from faculty across all of Virginia’s private and public colleges and universities, across all disciplines and areas.
